Rihanna’s Bold Decision: The Surprising Reason Behind Her Exit from Savage X Fenty

June 24, 2023

Rihanna, the acclaimed singer and founder of the lingerie brand Savage X Fenty, is transferring her CEO title to a new executive. Since its establishment in 2018, Rihanna has been at the helm of the company.

A new figure is set to join the leadership team of Savage X Fenty, as announced by Rihanna. The artist, who served as the CEO since its inception in 2018, will hand over her duties on June 26, as reported by Vogue Business on June 23. She named Hillary Super, the former CEO of Anthropologie Group, as her successor.

The 35-year-old singer, though stepping down as CEO, is still devoted to her business and will retain her significant influence as the executive chair.

Rihanna expressed her sentiment regarding the company’s growth over the years in a statement to Vogue Business, stating, “Our vision for Savage X Fenty has drastically influenced the industry in the past five years. We’re just getting started and will keep pushing boundaries to remain relevant to our consumers.”

Expressing her enthusiasm for her brand’s future, the Grammy-winning artist stated, “I am thrilled to introduce Hillary Super as our new CEO. She’s an effective leader determined to elevate our business to unprecedented heights.”

Hillary, who has previously held executive roles at American Eagle, Guess, Old Navy, and Gap, mirrored Rihanna’s positive sentiment.

In her own statement to Vogue Business, Hillary remarked, “I’m extremely excited to be a part of the Savage X Fenty family. The brand stands as a formidable force in the lingerie and apparel market, and its unwavering devotion to promoting diversity and audacity is genuinely inspiring.”

This leadership transition is announced just a month after Rihanna marked the fifth anniversary of Savage X Fenty. The “Umbrella” singer, currently expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, celebrated the occasion with a captivating photoshoot revealing her pregnancy.

Adorned in a black bralette and boxers from her label, paired with black heels and a chic hairstyle with bangs, she posed amidst office settings—complete with printer and filing cabinets—and playfully tossed paper around for the photos.

Rihanna humorously captioned her May 11 Instagram post as “it’s giving…call HR!!”

Rihanna is also the founder of the cosmetics company Fenty Beauty, which she launched in 2017, where she continues to serve as CEO. The brand was estimated to be worth $2 billion by Forbes in August 2021.
